~~There were thousands of different
styles and kinds of table lamps. Some were very ornate and were also known
as Banquet Lamps, others were just straight forward lamps that
sat on the table, maybe only in the parlor but they were a cut
above the Rayo and lamps like the Rayo.
~~The mid sections were varied--bronze,
glass, pewter, brass--almost any thing the designer wanted. Many
had either the lower design duplicated or it was a complimentary
design on the upper globe.
~~Often you will find the top globe
has been broken over the years and you see lamps that have upper
globes that somewhat match and some that are not even close.
Sometimes you will find that some enterprising person has contracted
to have someone paint a globe similar to the one that came with
the lamp.
~~It is important that you look
carefully at both the upper and lower and be sure that they match.
The bases were all kinds of materials from marble to cast brass,
cast iron, again whatever the designer wanted to use.
~~The lamp illustrated here is No
809 out of the Edward Miller Co. Illustrated Catalog of Lamps
and Cigar Lighters dated 1881.
